Exchange trip to exchanging vows

Charlotte and William met while in China, as part of an exchange trip with university, “After graduating in 2015 we moved in together and a year later we were engaged!”  In homage to how they met, Will proposed in the middle of the gorgeous Chinese Lake Garden at Portmeirion, South Wales.

Searching for the perfect venue

“We both knew from day one that we wanted a traditional church ceremony and chose St. Mary’s Church in Bitteswell. From there the search for the wedding venue began! We looked high and low for local venues that would suit our needs. We wanted something that was intimate and relaxed, yet formal enough for us to feel like it was our wedding day and not just a party.

“We had been to Hothorpe Hall in 2015 for a Christmas Party, but had no idea The Woodlands was finished being built – it wasn’t until a work colleague mentioned how lovely it was that we decided to book a visit. Honestly, we fell in love with the venue at first sight! It fitted our requirements perfectly and the gorgeous woodland setting was just beautiful.”

The big day

Charlotte and William planned their theme around the venue, “With the name and natural setting we decided quite quickly on a woodland theme. We wanted to create a relaxed environment for all our family and friends, while still making sure to capture the gravity of the day in other elements… such as our fabulous four tier cake!”

The arrival to both the church and The Woodlands also made a lasting impression, “We booked a classic Badsworth Laudette for Charlotte and a classic coach followed with the bridesmaids and other guests on board! On arrival at The Woodlands we were greeted by fizz, ice-cream (instead of canapés) and the acoustic sounds of Mango Acoustic Duo.

“We really wanted to offer something a little different for our guests throughout the day, so decided on a Host a Roast for our wedding breakfast, it went down incredibly well even with the guests chosen to host in chef’s hats and aprons!”

As the celebrations continued, the couple decided to split the evening festivities in to two, “For the first half we had a barn dance followed by a DJ for the final party. The evening food was also amazing with tacos and an Evening Snack station (Sausage Rolls and Pretzels).”

Lasting memories

“The Treehouse… a fantastic bridal suite with a bathtub overlooking the grounds. A-ma-zing!”

Advice to other couples

“Your wedding day will come and go in a flash, take a moment just the two of you to stand aside, take a breath and enjoy every second!”

Recommendations

“The wedding planners, Steph, Lisa and Julia, were amazing all the way through and were always quick at coming back to any queries we might have.  The dining manager, Leslie, was also absolutely phenomenal and went over and above to ensure our day ran as smoothly as possible (with absolutely no hiccups) and always keeping our glasses topped up - a real credit to the Hothorpe Venues team! It really was a fairy-tale day at a fantastic venue! The accommodation also meant that we could extend our celebrations with our family and friend a little longer with breakfast onsite the next day.”
