Shelley & Richard - March 2015

The First Meeting

The couple first met in their final year at Coventry University whilst studying for their Law degrees. Shelley’s parents provided the perfect setting for Richard’s proposal, by moving to Bermuda! He popped the question on the beautiful Shelly Bay, in September 2013, on the couple’s third visit.

Choosing a Venue

The couple knew that they wanted an exclusive venue so that it felt special, and they also wanted several rooms so that they could avoid the ‘room turnaround scenario’, “Hothorpe gave us all of this and more,” explains Shelley. “We were also impressed with how well kept the venue is and how modern and clean it is. The function rooms and bedrooms are perfect and the grounds are stunning,” she continued. The couple also felt that Hothorpe would be a good choice for their guests to relax and enjoy the day, “An extra plus point for us was the very reasonable bar prices, as we have been to many weddings and functions where we simply could not afford to have a good time due to the high bar tariffs."

The couple viewed Hothorpe at a wedding open day, “We met Stephanie our Wedding Co-ordinator during our first visit to Hothorpe and we felt that she was just as excited about our plans as we were, which gave us the confidence to book Hothorpe, knowing it was the venue for us,” explains Shelley.

The Perfect Day

The couple had a church service at All Saints Church in Stretton-on-Dunsmore, a small village just outside Rugby, before arriving at Hothorpe for their Reception and Wedding Breakfast. The theme for flowers was ivory and pink roses, which matched the table centrepieces.

The Bride looked stunning in an ivory sparkly princess dress with a sweatheart neckline, and matching sparkly veil. The Bridesmaids wore navy, one-shoulder chiffon dresses, and the grooms party wore navy tails and matching navy cravats.

The couple enjoyed their special day with around 120 of their nearest and dearest, with many electing to book overnight accommodation at Hothorpe, “It was lovely to see everyone the next morning at breakfast,” said Shelley.

Did the team measure up?

“The Hothorpe staff were perfect. We felt confident knowing that we could relax and everything was in hand,” recalls Shelley. “We had a wedding planning meeting with both Steph and our Master of Ceremonies, Matt, and after each meeting we felt a huge weight lifted off our shoulders as we knew we could just leave it with them and not worry.”

What are your lasting memories of your special day?

We asked Shelley and Richard what were the memories of their big day that will stay with them. “Arriving in our wedding car up the beautiful driveway, and then being handed a lovely glass of fizz,” Shelley recalls. “The food really stood out for us – so many people remarked how lovely the meal was. We played a game between the main course and dessert, which got some giggles from the guests and helped the day to feel relaxed and fun,” said Shelley.

Following the wedding breakfast the couple choose a swing singer who also did a DJ set, ensuring the dancefloor kept busy. Shelly and Richard also had a photobooth in the evening, “The company said they have never had one that was used so many times,” explains Shelley. "There was constant laughter coming from the booth and the album is hilarious!”

Would Shelley & Richard recommend Hothorpe Hall?

“Absolutely. We couldn’t have picked better, for all the reasons above!”

Shelley & Richard's advice to other couples marrying at Hothorpe Hall

  1. Relax and let the staff run around while you enjoy every minute of your day
  2. Take 10 minutes out to spend with your new husband/wife. “Before you know it, it’s your first dance and you haven’t spoken to one another all day!”
  3. Have as many photographs as possible and pick a good photographer. “We couldn’t be happier with our photographs and can’t stop looking at them. They have captured our day perfectly.”
