Louise and Stephen - June 2016

The Proposal

Louise and Stephen met at university and dated for 8 years before Louise received Stephen’s romantic proposal of marriage: “Stephen booked a surprise holiday to the Maldives and popped the question on our very own private island as the sun set,” recalled Louise.

Choosing the Venue & Planning

“Hothorpe Hall was the first venue we viewed and at the time, The Woodlands was under construction,” said Louise, “but we were shown round the site and instantly fell in love with the concept… so we booked it!”

Louise and Stephen chose a an early summer wedding date and began planning the details of their big day, as they watched and waited for The Woodlands to turn from concept to reality. “The wedding had a rustic theme with lots of lace and hessian with a pink/purple colour scheme.”

The Big Day

Louise and Stephen took advantage of The Woodlands’ civil ceremony license: “We got married at the Woodlands which has beautiful views out into the trees. Our 60 guests spent the whole day there and then we were joined by evening guests later on,” remembered Louise, who continued, “we had drinks and canapes outside after the ceremony whilst a magician entertained our guests. Then we enjoyed a delicious wedding breakfast in the gorgeous dining room followed by music and dancing.”

Louise & Stephen took full advantage of their exclusive use booking at The Woodlands by inviting their guests to book on the the woodland bedrooms for the night, while the happy couple took advantage of the luxury treehouse bridal suite. “So many of our guests stayed at the venue which was so handy, particularly for those with young children, who could put the kids to bed then still enjoy the party,” said Louise.

Support from Staff

Louise was pleased to have had a fantastic team of staff at Hothorpe Hall & The Woodlands from start to finish: “Right from booking, the staff at Hothorpe were wonderful. Our wedding planner Lisa was fantastic and whenever we spoke to her in the planning stages we were always left feeling at ease and confident that things would be wonderful. On the day we barely saw her as we were so busy enjoying ourselves but she and the Hothorpe staff made sure everything went to plan and that the venue looked beautiful for us. On the day I felt like I did not have to worry about a thing as it was all in very good hands.”

Louise and Stephen’s Wedding tip:

Hire a magician to entertain your guests whilst you are having photos taken. All our guests were blown away by him and all said they would want him at their own weddings!
