Calling all Clarinettists & Singers!

Places are still available to join the group, course organiser Michael Watkins tells us all about next week’s event:

“Fifteen years ago the inaugural event of Reynard Music’s playing courses was a Clarinet Choir day,” explains Michael. “The day was spent preparing a programme for a concert in the evening, of clarinet choir works , followed by a 40-clarinet arrangement of Thomas Tallis's “Spem in Alium”, at the Holy Sepulchre Church, Northampton.  This July a 15th Anniversary Performance is booked to occur – all that is needed is clarinettists and singers  to take part in preparing and performing a “West Gallery” approach to the work – each singer will be aided and abetted by a clarinettist alongside in support.

Players and singers who wish to perform in both the first half of the concert in separate ensembles, followed by the second half in Thomas Tallis's Spem in Alium Nunquam Habui, Ecce Beatam Lucem by Alessandro Striggio, and Magnificat a 33 by Giovanni Gabrielli should book for the full course.

Individuals who cannot allocate the week, but who are confident in their solo performing ability, can book to spend just the Wednesday at Hothorpe from 9:30, including lunch and dinner, through to the evening concert at Holy Sepulchre. They will perform just in the second half of the concert.

I am most delighted that Stephen Bell, the superb MD of the Northampton Concert Band for the last 10 years, and who has been directing the Northampton Male Voice Choir since 2011, will be working with us towards the concert.  Previously he has conducted the Northampton Chamber Choir and the St Cecilia Singers.

Bb clarinets and harmony instruments are welcome from clarinettists: Eb, Alto, Basset Horn and Bass. Please bring a music stand.”
